Collaboration beneficial to college students and village residents
The students of Rangitoto College and the residents of Arvida Knightsbridge community in Windsor Park, have been collaborating and sharing their knowledge through a variety of collaborative initiatives.
Year 10 Food Technology students showcased their skills by preparing high tea presentations. These decadent displays offered residents the opportunity to enjoy and critique the students' culinary creations (pictured). The feedback and comments from the residents provided essential learning for the students, helping them refine their techniques.
A community garden was launched by the college's Garden Society club. Students learnt how to grow a range of seasonal vegetables, including cabbage, cauliflower, spring onions, beetroot, capsicum, and broccoli. This hands-on experience was enriched by valuable guidance from the knowledgeable residents of Arvida Knightsbridge, who shared their expert tips and advice with the budding student gardeners. Some of the residents also arranged a roster for residents to water, weed, and nurture the vegetable garden plots during school holidays.
Village Manager, Carol Andrews says it’s a two-way street with residents and students. “The collaboration between college students and village residents has continued to develop and grow overtime with both groups of people benefiting from the regular interaction.”
There is also a strong musical connection between the college and the village with performances by various music groups. Students have also made excellent IT presentations and given individual help to residents to support their IT needs.
