First care suites offer new level of support to Queenstown

First care suites offer new level of support to Queenstown

The first ever care suites have opened in Queenstown and they offer more freedom for the over-65 community who are needing care and support while still living life their way.

The care suites, purchased through an Occupation Right Agreement (ORA), provide personalisation that’s supported by hospital or rest home-level care. Arvida Queenstown Country Club Village Manager, Maurice David (pictured with Wellness Leader - Andrea Ellison, Living Well Manager - Angela Cole, and Clinical Manager - Sherry Abaljen) says the concept of a care suite gives an opportunity for the resident to feel right at home.

“Care suite designs have all the comforts of home with a kitchenette, ensuite bathroom and built-in storage. Having family come to visit is so easy when you have your own space.”

It’s the best of both worlds for a resident who might feel like socialising with innovative small household groups. The care suite households also have spacious shared kitchens, living rooms and outdoor areas. Maurice explains when it comes to personal and clinical care services, it’s always a personalised experience.

“My care team tailors care plans and support to each resident’s needs and preferences. We work closely with the resident and their family to find out what they enjoy doing and what their routine is like.”

The care suite personal freedom extends to something as simple as breakfast time, a routine many of us take for granted.

“We have some residents who regularly like to sleep a little later each morning and that’s fine with us. That means they have their breakfast when they want to. Many other homes just don’t offer this kind of flexibility and I think it’s what makes our care suites unique,” explains Maurice.

Strong bonds between residents and team are common, as are the friendships between residents. When it comes to activities, there’s a range available where residents can do as much or as little as they like. From regular exercise sessions to card making, high tea to musical bingo, the wide variety of activity options give everyone an opportunity to ‘have a go’. The care suites themselves are professionally and tastefully decorated with beautiful colours and furnishings.

“The feedback on our new care centre and the care suites has been overwhelmingly positive. This is a new offering in Queenstown and myself and the dedicated nurses, wellness partners, laundry and kitchen teams couldn’t be prouder of our homely and welcoming environment.”

Arvida Queenstown Country Club was first established in 2016 with premium villas and has now expanded to include independent living apartments and care suites with support.
