Mayfair Auckland turns 30
As the Mayfair Auckland community celebrated 30 years last week, residents took a trip down memory lane.
Resident, Meg Norton worked for a local daycare a few doors up the road and would regularly bring the children to sing songs for the residents. While resident, Rex Cowley remembered when he partied at the original house at the top of the hill (now Mayfair) and rode horses on the site 76 years ago.
Joy Carmichael moved into Mayfair in October 1993, a month before the official opening and was on hand to cut the birthday cake.
Arvida Mayfair Village Manager, Kirsty Allison says the Northcross Auckland community has come a long way and it’s the people that matter most.
“Looking through all the albums one thing clearly stands out – it’s not the building it’s the people. I truly hope the smiles, fun and frivolity will continue for another 30 years because it’s not the structure that leaves a legacy but the memories of the people who have been part of it.”
